Overview

The Iron, Serum test measures the level of iron circulating in your blood. Iron is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in producing hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. It also supports energy production, immune function, and healthy muscle activity. This test is commonly used to investigate anemia, fatigue, weakness, and nutritional deficiencies. It also helps diagnose iron overload conditions such as hemochromatosis and is often performed along with Ferritin, Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC), and Transferrin Saturation for a comprehensive evaluation of iron status.

How to Prepare

• 1Fast for 8–12 hours if recommended by your healthcare provider. Water is allowed during the fasting period. Avoid taking iron supplements for 24 hours before the test unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking. Morning sample collection is often preferred
