Overview
The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Total, Serum test measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood. Small amounts of PSA normally circulate in the bloodstream, but elevated levels may indicate prostate enlargement, inflammation, infection, or prostate cancer. This test is commonly recommended for men with urinary symptoms, those at increased risk of prostate cancer, or individuals undergoing routine prostate health screening. It is also used to monitor treatment response and detect recurrence in men who have been treated for prostate cancer.
