Overview
The AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone / Müllerian Inhibiting Substance), Serum test measures the level of Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) in the blood. AMH is produced by the granulosa cells of small ovarian follicles and serves as a reliable indicator of a woman's ovarian reserve (the remaining egg supply). AMH testing is widely used in the evaluation of female fertility, helping clinicians estimate ovarian reserve and predict response to assisted reproductive techniques (ART) such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Unlike many reproductive hormones, AMH levels remain relatively stable throughout the menstrual cycle, allowing testing on any day of the cycle. The test is also useful in the assessment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), diminished ovarian reserve, and menopause-related changes. In selected clinical situations, AMH may also be used to monitor granulosa cell tumors of the ovary.
